About East Cheshire

For the purpose of "East Cheshire Walks", I originally defined the eastern part as "that part of Cheshire extending roughly from Mobberley in the west to The Tors ridge above the Goyt Valley in the east, giving a fairly even split between the peaks and plains. Macclesfield is in the centre, but access is easy from Manchester, Stockport, Congleton, Knutsford and many other northern conurbations".

For those unfamiliar with the area, the western part is relatively flat and includes such towns and villages as Wilmslow, Prestbury, Gawsworth and the Peovers (Over Peover and Lower Peover). Heading east, the hills get bigger and the landscape wilder. Villages such as Kettleshulme and Rainow typify the area.

In 2008, there was a major reorganisation of UK local government with the creation of new unitary authorities. For East Cheshire the new authority will be 'Cheshire East' which will run all services in the boroughs of Macclesfield, Congleton (nicely relevant to my book) and Crewe & Nantwich.
